“Best in the league” – Gunners fans thrilled as Ozil puts pen to paper

Arsenal fans have been treated with the long awaited news that midfielder Mesut Ozil has signed a new long-term contract at the club.

Ozil, who signed from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, has committed his future to the Gunners, signing an new deal that will keep him in North London until the summer of 2021.


He will now earn a reported £350,000 a week, making him the club’s highest paid player.

The Germany international – who won the World Cup in 2014 – has won the Emirates FA Cup three times since joining the club, making 182 appearances, scoring 36 goals and racking up 61 assists.

After signing, the Germany international said on Twitter: “Proud to announce: I signed dat thing….three more years with Arsenal!

“It’s been one of the most important decisions of my footballing career and that’s why I had to think hard and talk with everyone who’s important to me…good things take time!

“In the end I let my heart decide. As I always said, I feel at home here and I’m highly motivated to achieve big things in the next few years. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner!”

There have been plenty of rumours linking him with a move away from the club with his old contract set to expire in the summer, however the Arsenal fans are delighted he is staying at The Emirates …
