Bender Denies Links To Arsenal

Bayern Leverkusen’s Lars Bender has denied all rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal, according to ESPN, and has said that the poor season at his current club only means he would want to have a better next season in Germany.

Arsenal have been looking high and low for a quality holding midfielder, but the hunt has taken them nowhere in term of sealing a move for a player. Marouane Fellaini was a target for Arsene Wenger last year, but the Belgian instead decided to move to Manchester United under then manager David Moyes. Mikel Arteta has been covering for the holding midfield position but the Spaniard’s natural game lies in creating attacking threats with his passing abilities. Alex Song was the last recognised defensive midfielder in Arsenal’s squad, and since his departure, the position has been vacant, leading to cracks in the club’s defence.

Bender has just signed a contract extension which takes the expiry of his deal to 2019. Also, the player has been given the responsibility of the club captain. The 25-year old started his professional career with 1860 Munchen, and then signed for Leverkusen in search for high level football at a consistent level.
