Ben Jacobs Claims Arteta Is Pushing Arsenal To Sign “Lightning Quick” Champions League Star Who Could Cost 60M

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen on the Gunners securing the signature of Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs.

A number of sources claim the London club are leading the race for the Ukrainian international, who has lit up the Champions League this season, and Jacobs says Arteta is looking to work with a player who has massive potential:

“Arteta feels that he can be developed into a more versatile player. At the moment he’s lightning quick, he’s got a good eye for goal, he weighs in with assists, he makes the pitch as big as possible, he starts on the left-hand side and he cuts in.”

“I think Mikel Arteta thinks that he can spend more time during games in central areas and, even under select game management situations, switch sides as well.”

“As he adds those strings to his bow, he could live up to his reputation as one of the best players in that position. So, it’s one to watch from Arsenal’s point of view.”

There have been some reports suggesting that Arsenal are close to snapping up Mudryk, with a transfer fee of around £40m being suggested as sufficient to seal the deal.

However, the likes of Fabrizio Romano have reported that Shakhtar won’t settle for anything below £60m, so we shall have to wait and see whether the move goes ahead.

Other Premier League teams have also been credited with an interest in Mudryk, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle so the Gunners may also have to see off rivals for the 21-year-old’s services.
