Bellerin: Arsenal already better than last season

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has hailed the difference that new boss Unai Emery has made to the team in the short time he has been at the club.

The Gunners brought in Emery to replace Wenger after 22 years at the club, and there is a new found sense of optimism surrounding the team as they hope to steady the ship and deliver the results Arsenal deserve to see.

With Arsenal finishing 6th last season, missing out on the Champions League, it’s fair to say that the No.1 priority for the Gunners should be finishing in the top 4 – perhaps adding a bit of silverware from elsewhere too.

They’re on the right track to do so, bringing in five players this summer that all look like a good fit with much to add to the team.

However, Arsenal made a fairly sluggish start to their Premier League campaign last weekend, losing 2-0 to champions Manchester City.

But it was by no means a disastrous result, it only really indicated that Emery needs time to instil his tactics into the team.

And Bellerin believes that there are already clear improvements at the club than there were last season, saying that the team look better under Emery.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Bellerin said:

“Having been on the pitch, I think that compared to where we were last year I think we looked better and had chances in the second half that we didn’t score.

“We’re playing against a team that have been around each other for three years and they have new players and were crowned champions, so we knew that it was going to be hard, so for us it’s about taking the positives.”

It will be a season of ups and downs for the Gunners this season, but Emery must be given time to prove what he is capable of. Everyone within the club seems happy, now it’s time to get behind the manager through thick and thin.
