BBC Sport pundit and writer Garth Crooks has named Arsenal stars Martin Odegaard and Jorginho in his team of the week.

Both players are good value for their inclusion – Odegaard was energetic as always and took his goal well. Meanwhile, Jorginho provided a metronomic presence at the base of midfield, regularly finding his teammates with crisp passes.

On Odegaard, Crooks said: “Odegaard was yet again at the heart of another Arsenal victory. The Norwegian’s decision-making seems to be getting better by the game as he continues to provide his team with the sophistication other players simply don’t possess.”

Meanwhile, Crooks had this to say about Jorginho: “[Jorginho] is the perfect foil for Thomas Partey, who has had an excellent season but is in desperate need of a rest like most of the players who played in the World Cup. Newcastle are a big side and the moment they realised they couldn’t outplay Arsenal they tried to intimidate them and, all credit to the Gunners, they were having none of it.”

In the game against Newcastle United at the weekend, Arsenal came under heavy pressure on several occasions – nevertheless, through a combination of determination, strong organisation and good fortune, they were able to keep the Magpies at bay.

While Arsenal’s central defenders and Aaron Ramsdale were worthy of praise, Odegaard and Jorginho put in an industrious effort to protect them. Odegaard capped off his brilliant performance with a goal, with Jorginho providing the assist.
