Bayern To Dash Arsenal’s Draxler Hopes?

Julian Draxler has given Arsenal and Arsene Wenger several sleepless nights throughout the month of January, as they made every possible but unsuccessful effort to sign him from Schalke in the recently shut transfer window. That involved making a substantial offer on Deadline Day as reported by the press across the continent, which was however strangely denied by Schalke’s director of sport Horst Heldt.

The 20-year old’s release clause of £37 million kicks in during the summer, and the Gunners will have to part with nearly a similar amount of money it took to land Mesut Ozil in August. Though a bid from the league leaders is expected in the close season, there has been a new turn of events which have severely dented Arsenal’s hopes of landing the young talent.

As the Daily Mail report, Arsenal’s recent nemesis, Bayern Munich, are ready to jump the queue and sign Draxler ahead of the North Londoners as they are readily prepared to fulfill Draxler’s release clause, while there is still some trepidation on Wenger’s part. Draxler has been Wenger’s No. 1 target this season, and Arsenal are set to make a fresh approach for him in the summer; but will Bayern dash his hopes of landing Draxler?

The appeal of joining Pep Guardiola’s side might be too tempting for Draxler so let’s hope Arsene Wenger is at his persuasive best when he talks to the young German next.
