Barcelona want to sign Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a replacement for Luis Suarez before the transfer window closes this month, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan publication reports that Barca have made the Gabon international their no.1 target after Suarez was sidelined for four months with a knee injury.

The Uruguayan has had surgery on a long-standing issue, but the La Liga champions know they need a replacement now in order to strengthen their squad as they battle on multiple fronts for trophies.

Aubameyang only has eighteen months left on his contract, and while the 30-year-old has declared he is happy at the Emirates, the Gunners are risking him going into his final year without agreeing an extension to his current deal.

Barcelona would certainly be a tempting prospect for the Arsenal star, who is reportedly very keen on playing in the Champions League. With Mike Arteta’s side ten points off fourth place heading into this evening’s game against Chelsea, there is a big risk of the club also failing to qualify for Europe’s premier competition this campaign.
