Aubameyang proud to follow in footsteps of ‘icon’ Thierry Henry

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he feels honoured to follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry by wearing the club’s number 14 shirt.

Auba, who joined Arsenal in January as a club record signing from Borussia Dortmund, has scored 10 goals in for the Gunners in only 14 games.

While that total remains a long way off of Henry, who is the club’s all time top scorer with 228 goals – the Gabon international says he hope’s he can replicate the feats of the iconic Frenchman in his former number.

“There weren’t many numbers left to choose from,” he told Arsenal Player, “I wanted number 7, but Mkhi arrived and took it.

“I thought, ‘Why not follow in the footsteps of a legend?’ Even though I don’t compare myself to Henry, because he achieved so many great things – it’s hard to compare.

“But I’m proud to wear the number 14 shirt and I hope to honour it.”
