Aubameyang Makes Statement On His Future Amid Contract Uncertainty

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has said he is “happy” at the Emirates despite constant speculation about his future at the club.

The 30-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season, and there has been talk of the player moving to Inter Milan and Barcelona in recent months. However, the Gunners captain says he doesn’t see a reason to leave the London club:

“I love the fans here and when I was younger I used to watch Arsenal because they had always great players, and yeah won trophies as well. So I think it’s really a pleasure to be here. I’m really happy. I think that’s the feeling.”

Whether that means Aubameyang would be open to signing another contract, it remains to be seen. Manager Mikel Arteta has said that Arsenal will look to open talks over a new deal before the end of the season, and the Spaniard has emphasised that he wants to keep his captain under whatever circumstances.

However, it is unlikely that the Gunners would allow the Gabonese international’s contract to run down, considering the club’s hierarchy have vowed to avoid a repeat of Aaron Ramsey’s departure to Juventus on a free transfer.
