Athletic Bilbao Target Arsenal Pair

Athletic Bilbao are considering a bid for Arsenal pair Nacho Monreal and Mikel Arteta, both of whom could be on the list of players the Gunners are ready to let go as they look to sign more players over the course of the next few weeks, according to a report from Metro.

Arsenal have signed several players this summer, but Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club are looking to sign more players before the end of the transfer window. The Gunners must sell to buy more, and Monreal and Arteta could be let go if the club can agree terms with more players and their respective clubs.

Monreal’s career began as a youth player at Osasuna, before he signed on for the senior team and played 127 league games. The 28-year old then joined Malaga in 2013, but has been unable to establish his place in the Arsenal lineup. Kieran Gibbs has stamped his authority on the left back berth, leaving Monreal to play just 23 league matches last season.

Arteta began his trade at Barcelona, before having spells at Paris Saint Germain, Rangers and Real Sociedad. A loan deal at Everton as a Sociedad player was beneficial for both the Toffees and Arteta, and the Spaniard signed a permanent deal. After making 162 appearances at Goodison Park, Arteta managed to become club captain and score 27 goals in his time at the club before joining the Gunners 2 years ago.
