“As Of Today…” Romano Provides Key Update On Arsenal’s Attempts To Sign 85M Rated Striker

Arsenal have NOT held talks about signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Another respect journalist, Goal‘s Charles Watts, had claimed that the Nigerian international’s agent had been in London last week for discussions with the Gunners’ technical director Edu, but Romano says his sources have denied this story:

“As of today, I am not aware of an advanced negotiation for Victor Osimhen to Arsenal. So far there is no proposal on the table, sources close to the club guarantee.”

Romano goes on to say that Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus remains the number one target for Arsenal, but they are waiting for a final decision from the Brazilian, who is also being pursued by other clubs.

With regards to Osimhen, a deal would always have been difficult to negotiate, with most reports suggesting that Napoli would hold out for at least €100m (£85m) for the 23-year-old.

That is a substantial outlay on a forward who has been impressive since moving to Italy but not outstanding. In his 63 appearances for Napoli, Osimhen has hit the back of the net 28 times.
