‘As Far As I’m Told…’ Charles Watts Provides New Update On Arsenal’s Attempts To Sign 7M Rated Leno Replacement

Arsenal have not yet made a formal approach for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to Goal‘s Gunners correspondent Charles Watts.

The reliable journalist says that, despite the London club being very interested in snapping up the Cameroon international, they have not made an offer so far:

“I haven’t heard that it’s been firmed up yet in terms of an actual bid going in. Arsenal, I’ve spoken at length about their interest in Onana, it hasn’t turned into a bid as of yet. I know there are other clubs interested in him from France, from England and Arsenal are still waiting, as far as I’m told, in terms of putting a bid in for him.”

Onana is currently serving a doping ban but the Court of Arbitration of Sport have reduced his suspension from twelve months to nine months so he will be available to play at the start of November.

The 25-year-old is expected to be sold for just £7m due to his contract expiring in 2022, so Arsenal’s hesitation in making a bid is surprising.

Whether the Gunners are waiting to find a buyer for Bernd Leno, it isn’t known. The German is reportedly open to leaving the Emirates this summer, with two years remaining on his current deal, but there are no clubs said to be close to making a bid for the keeper.
