Arsenal will not be competing to sign Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
The former BBC reporter says that, contrary to reports in France last week, he does not think the Gunners will be in the market for the teenager:
“As far as I know there’s no chance.”
Camavinga has one year left on his current deal at Rennes, prompting rumours that he could leave the Ligue One club, with the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool all thought to be keen on signing the player.
Despite his contract situation, it is said that Rennes could still hold out for a fee in the region of €50m (£43m) for the 18-year-old. That asking price, combined with the competition that the club will face, means a move to the Gunners is very unlikely.
There is a very small possibility that the attraction of playing regularly in the Premier League may tempt Camavinga into moving to Arsenal, but Ornstein doesn’t seem to be convinced by that argument.
