Arteta ‘Struggling’ To Keep Hold Of Key Arsenal Star Who Is ‘Desperate’ For Champions League Football

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is “struggling” to convince captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stay at the club for the long term, according to the Telegraph.

The 30-year-old has just 18 months left on his contract at the Emirates and the newspaper claims the forward is “desperate” to get back playing in the Champions League.

After Sunday’s defeat to Chelsea, the Gunners are now 11 points off the top four after 20 games, and it’s unlikely that they’ll be back in Europe’s premier competition next campaign.

Aubameyang’s performance against the Blues at the weekend does show the Gabonese international is committed to the cause for the time being but Arteta knows he must show there is progress being made on the pitch quickly.

Arsenal are at risk of losing the forward for nothing at the end of next season, and the London club will need to improve their fortunes if Aubameyang is to sign a new deal.
