Arteta: New Signings Imminent

Arsenal’s midfield maestro Mikel Arteta feels signings are on the way to the Emirates Stadium, and is confident the squad will have new faces by the end of the current transfer window.

Arsene Wenger is working hard behind the scenes to try and push the board to finalize signings, but time is running out for the club as 31st August approaches fast. The French boss has been under pressure from the club’s supporters as Newcastle United’s loan signing of Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers meant Arsenal now remain the only club in the Barclays Premier League without any high profile signings coming through the door in this window. A number of positions have been talked about in the media that needs additions at Arsenal, including that of the goalkeeper. After Vito Mannone’s move to Sunderland, Arsenal are left with only two senior goalkeepers. Elsewhere, the midfield was a position being discussed as a potential area of concern given the injury crisis the club has seen in the past few seasons.

Arteta has established his position in the squad as a permanent member in midfield, and the former Everton player has been consistent in his performances ever since making the deadline day move from Goodison Park. The midfielder has been sitting deep in the engine room with the lack of an out-and-out defensive midfielder at the club. Ever since Alex Song left the club for Barcelona, Wenger has not been able to fill that position, and hence linked with a move for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian has been one of the most consistent players in the Everton squad now led by Roberto Martinez. Even though he started off as a defensive midfielder, Fellaini has established his presence as an attacking threat who is efficient on the ball.

According to ESPN, Arteta remains confident that the club will bring new faces to the squad, and that transfers take their own time to be completed with all the formalities and paperwork. Despite losing many targets, Arteta believes the best signings come last in the transfer window.

Arteta said, “I think we are going to start the season with new faces. That is what we are all hoping for. That will give us a big boost and everyone is very positive,

“It will happen. I have no doubts about it. ”

“It takes time, but I know the boss is working really hard on it, and the board as well. It will happen for sure. ”

“I am very convinced but the great players normally come at the end of the transfer window.”

I guess Arteta proved his point but it does cause many people’s hair to turn grey by having to wait until the end of the window to know if new players are signed.
