Arteta Injury Puts Further Pressure On Arsenal

Arsenal are as it is reeling with the absence of a few key players already, and adding to the list now is their midfield dictator Arteta, who has been the midfield linchpin for the Gunners this pre-season. He has played a key role in their midfield and his long-term absence is set to hurt Arsenal’s season opener against Aston Villa tomorrow.

The likes of Thomas Vermaelen and Nacho Monreal are already on the treatment table, and now the addition of Arteta will put extra pressure on the likes of defenders Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker along with on midfielders Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey to stay fit. There are slight concerns for Bacary Sagna and Theo Walcott too as they were seen struggling slightly after their international friendlies for France and England respectively.

Arsenal cannot afford to deal with further injuries now as they have been reduced down to the bare minimum number of players, as they have gone about selling off all their dead wood. Fringe players like Andrei Arshavin, Denilson, Andre Santos, Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh have already been sold off by the club, and Arsenal now are in desperate need to strengthen their squad before the transfer window slams shut on2nd September.

Yahoo! Eurosport reports that Arteta’s absence is sure to hurt them, as the Spaniard has been vital in the heart of midfield for Arsenal. He has worked tirelessly as a defensive midfielder and on many occasions, he has been the one to initiate an attacking move. With him sidelined for quite a long time now, it will be interesting to see how the likes of Wilshere and Ramsey step up and fill the void.

There could not have been a worse time as Arsenal’s summer transfer business is going nowhere at the moment, and the injuries are piling up every day. They were looking for a bright start to the season at the Emirates Stadium today, but their task has been made tougher now as Arteta will be out for a significant time.
