Arteta Hopeful Of Triple Fitness Boost Ahead Of The Weekend’s Clash Against Leicester

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is hoping to have Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Kieran Tierney back in time for Saturday’s match against Leicester City.

White was substituted ten minutes into the second half of the 2-0 win over Leeds in the Carabao Cup last night. The defender has been suffering with an illness but he could recover in time for the trip to the King Power Stadium.

After the game yesterday, Arteta was also asked about the fitness of Odegaard and Tierney. The pair have been sidelined with knocks but Arteta suggested that they are both close to returning to action:

“They were both out with two different injuries. They tried yesterday but they didn’t feel great. They wanted to be involved, but they weren’t good enough to be selected today. Hopefully, in the next few days, they can feel better and they can be available for Leicester.”

Considering Odegaard only missed the Leeds match with a minor niggle, the Norwegian looks almost certain to be back in contention for the weekend.

However, there appears to be less confidence about Tierney’s ankle injury. The fact that Sead Kolasinac started ahead of Nuno Tavares yesterday evening may suggest that the Portuguese fullback is being lined up to play in Tierney’s absence on Saturday.
