Arteta Gives Emphatic Response When Asked About £25m Player’s Future

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has shot down rumours linking fullback Kieran Tierney with a move away from the Emirates at the end of the season.

Leicester have been mentioned as a possible destination for the Scotland international, where he would be reunited with his former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

However, when asked about Tierney’s future, Arteta was adamant that the £25m summer signing would be staying put, saying that he rates the left-back’s abilities:

“He’s not going anywhere. I really like him. I’m very impressed by him. Everybody loves him at the club and he earns that every single day with the way he treats people, the way he works and the energy he brings to the place.”

“And then with his performances, I am delighted. He has adapted really well, he is a player that gives you everything in every session and every game. And the quality he has added as well.”

It is not a surprising answer considering how Tierney has performed since the restart but there had been lingering doubts over the 23-year-old due to his fitness issues this campaign.

The defender arrived in London following a hernia operation and did not make his debut until late September. He then suffered a dislocated shoulder in the win over West Ham in December which kept him out for a number of months.

However, Tierney now seems to have left his injury problems behind him and it looks like he will be central to Arteta’s plans going forward.
