Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot on loan when the January transfer window reopens, according to the Times.
The Frenchman only moved to Serie A from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer but has managed just 12 appearances under Juve boss Maurizio Sarri and may be allowed to leave on a temporary basis next month.
Rabiot could be on Arteta’s radar due to the likely departure of Granit Xhaka to Hertha Berlin. The Swiss international’s agent confirmed yesterday that personal terms had been agreed with the Bundesliga club and they are now waiting for the two teams to agree a transfer fee.
Like Xhaka, Rabiot can play as either a playmaker or a defensive midfielder, and would certainly fit into Arteta’s possession-based style which he is trying to implement at the Emirates.
He has previously been a target for the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool, but Arsenal’s interest stretches back even further, with Arsene Wenger having tracked him during his early years at PSG.
