Arsenal’s Surprising Target For This January

Arsenal may target an unexpected player over the winter transfer period. Basel’s Fabian Schar is on Wenger’s wish-list according to Metro. The 21 year old defender has really made an impression on the Frenchman who looks ready to place a bid for the Swiss international.

Schar started his senior career with FC Will for which he made 52 appearances and even managed to score 9 times. After three years spent with the club that also introduced him to the game, the defender moved to Basel. He has been there since 2012 and has quickly become a team regular. His move to an bigger team has also helped Switzerland’s manager to select Schar 5 times since 2013.

The Swiss international has already proven to be reliable and mature even though he just turned 21. His focused playing style and his composure have been improving even since he started his senior career. His confidence is also something to consider. He looks eager to score and help his team from both an offensive and defensive point of view.

He has already won an important prize after Basel was taken over by Murat Yakin. The former Swiss international has made a big impression on Schar and has helped him grow a lot since leaving FC Will.

Basel’s manager is not the only one to praise the 21 year old. Swiss legend, Alexander Frei also had great things to say about the defender who was characterized as being one of the most intelligent and fast improving players in Europe.

Wenger will surely be keen on signing Schar who is an excellent fit for Arsenal. Even though right-footed he can use both feet equally well. His aerial abilities are above average even though he is very young. Positionally, the Swiss international looks extremely promising. He has shown intelligence and a clear head each and every time he has had to face serious adversaries. He may lack speed but he definitely makes up for it through on-pitch awareness and intuition.

The Gunners could use a player of Fabian Schar’s potential. He is versatile and comes with a very tempting price tag. He is valued at £5.3million which seems like a real bargain.
