Arsenal’s Injury Problems Made Public

After being officially named the team with the most injuries over the past decade, Arsenal are now once again facing some tough numbers. According to Metro, two of the Gunners’ main defensive players are responsible for causing the most penalties during the past two years. Koscielny and Szczesny have given away almost 15 penalties since August 2012. The Frenchman just overcame his teammate after bringing down Hazard in the Sunday game against Chelsea. Unfortunately for Wenger, it seems that the North Londoners are facing a lot of issues mostly because of the thin squad they have. It is somewhat normal to see so many injuries with players who had to play as many as three or four games in around 10 days for long periods of time.

Even with an upgrade as far as the medical staff goes, it is still close to impossible for one player to perform at his full capacity over and over again. The same principle applies to Koscielny as well. Since 2012 he has been next to Mertesacker, one of the most constant players in Arsenal’s squad. With the line in front of him often forgetting to help the defense, it is only normal that Arsenal have conceded so many penalties because of a single defender. Szczesny could benefit from the same excuse given the fact that he is not actually that aggressive as a goalkeeper. Hopefully this season, some new players will fill in the gaps and will help Arsenal’s defense avoid being on top of any other negative statistic.
