Arsenal “would be open to cashing in” on striker Alexandre Lacazette if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signs a new contract this summer, according to Football.London‘s Arsenal correspondent James Benge.
The Frenchman has had a poor run of form this campaign, having scored just nine goals in 26 games, and Benge believes that if his Gabonese teammate were to stay, it would hasten the departure of the 28-year-old:
“Alexandre Lacazette is a curious one, certainly if Aubameyang were to stay I could envisage him being someone Arsenal would be open to cashing in on if the interest emerges. His form is hardly likely to prompt a flurry of interest.”
Lacazette arrived in the summer of 2017 from Lyon in a £52m deal, but he was interesting the likes of Atletico Madrid before he joined the Gunners and it is believed that the Spanish club retain an interest.
We are, however, still awaiting news on contract negotiations regarding Aubameyang. The belief is that the player may well turn down a new deal in order to force through a move away from the Emirates but it could all depend on the club’s qualification for the Champions League.
With that very much up in the air due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the futures of both players are far from settled.
