‘Arsenal Will Thrive With Ozil’ – Lehmann

Following his record breaking £42.4 million move on Transfer Deadline Day, Ozil has made two appearances for the Gunners thus far. He made an instant impact on his debut against Sunderland as he registered his first assist in just 11 minutes. He was also instrumental in Arsenal’s strong display in their 2-1 away win at Marseille.

The play maker has fitted in almost effortlessly into the Arsenal midfield, is linking up very well with Jack Wilshere and is dictating play from the heart of midfield. His addition has somehow managed to lift the entire team, who are on a roll at the moment as they have managed to rack up their 10th consecutive away win in all competitions – managing to set a record in itself.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Lehmann, who was part of that Invincibles side of the 2003-04 season, has spoken about the impact his German compatriot Ozil has had and will have this season on the Gunners. Metro report him as saying, “He [Wenger] has shown a lot of strength by resisting all the challenges.”

“I think he would have been offered plenty of players every day and there would have been a lot of temptation to go for one player, but because he wasn’t 100% sure about spending money on a player he didn’t really see fit to play for Arsenal, he finally went for Ozil.”

“Ozil is probably the best technical player in the German national team and he now needs to cope with the challenges of tough English football, but the whole club is thrived by the fact they finally bought a player for such a big amount of money [£42.4m].”

With Ozil already making such a massive impact in just two games, one can only expect the 24-year old to get better as time passes. Do you think that the signing of Ozil was exactly what Arsenal needed? Do you see the Gunners are genuine title contenders this season? Given the way they have started this season, it will not be surprising to see them fighting it out for the league title, come April/May 2014.
