Arsenal Weighing Up Cut Price £5m Deal For Swiss Under 21 Defender

Arsenal are considering a summer bid for Basel defender Eray Comert, according to reports in the UK.

The Switzerland Under 21 international was the subject of interest from Everton in the January transfer window, but the Gunners are the team currently leading the race for the player.

Comert will have 12 months to run on his current contract at the end of the season and Basel are said to be prepared to sell for just £5m.

The centre-back is only 21 years of age, and it appears that Arsenal will be looking to bring in younger players with potential to develop in the summer.

If the reports that manager Unai Emery will have only £40m to spend on new recruits are true, it would stand to reason that a change in transfer strategy would be on the cards.

The heavy investments in the likes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in recent years, combined with the lack of Champions League football, seem to have led to a tightening of purse strings at the Emirates.

Whether such a change in strategy becomes apparent in the summer, we shall see.
