The 22-year-old, Joel Veltman is currently on World Cup duty with the Netherlands squad although he is yet to start a game for Louis Van Gaal in Brazil. The Ajax defender is a target for Arsenal, who are keen to bolster their defensive options before the start of the new season.

According to the Mirror, the Gunnere are reportedly set to lose club captain and central defender Thomas Vermaelen and Wenger wants to provide more fierce competition to the first-choice pairing of Lorient Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

The north London club have identified Veltman as a replacement and are keen to negotiate a deal with Ajax for his signature. However, Tottenham are also monitoring his situation and want Veltman to solve their own central defence problems.
