Arsenal vs West Ham: Match Preview And Predictions

It’s time for sacrifice at the Emirates as Arsene Wenger needs to decide what is more important: The UEFA Europa League or finishing higher up in the PL.

As harsh as it might be, this is the truth; the Frenchman needs to figure out what is the realistic goal especially now that this is his last season in charge of the Gunners. Either way, Arsenal cannot go half-speed into any of these final battles.

With 5 domestic games left, the Gunners still have the slimmest of mathematical chances of catching up with Spurs and Chelsea if they win all the remaining fixtures and Spurs and Chelsea lose all their remaining games so in reality their chances are virtually nil.

On the other hand, Arsenal is a club big enough to have the confidence they can win the UEFA Europa league and qualify for the Champions League as Europa league winners. They would have to protect their starting eleven and forget about the PL you would think to secure the Europa League.

It is hard to imagine what is going on in Wenger’s head right now considering the announcement of his retirement from Arsenal at the end of the season. He is the one who knows how his players are taking the news and what they can do though so he is best placed to take the right decisions.

The West Ham game will be a tough one. Despite poor results, the Hammers have a decent squad and are still fighting to secure their Premier League status so it is expected they will leave it all on the field on Sunday. It’s an unfortunate situation for Arsenal who will have to regroup and recover in just 4 days for the Atletico Madrid semi-final.

Wenger with his announcement will have taken the pressure off of his players for the Sunday game. Arsenal are at their best when they are relaxed. They may now be able to play their beautiful kind of football as Wenger has always instilled in his players to adopt.

That’s probably the way the French Boss will handle the rest of the Premier League season as he will want to end on a high, ideally by winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League and leaving the club only once having not guided them into the Champions League.

In terms of their starting line-up, we predict the following XI for this weekend:

Cech

Kolasinac, Chambers, Mustafi, Bellerin

Xhaka, Wilshere, Elneny,

Ozil, Aubameyang, Iwobi

Given the revelation around Arsene Wenger’s future today we predict a 3-1 win on Sunday for the Gunners.
