Arsenal vs PSG: Match Preview

Arsenal face French giants Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night at the Emirates with top spot in the group the big prize for the winner. The two clubs have only faced each other in European competition on a three occasions in the past with Arsenal so far unbeaten registering a win and two draws.

In the first meeting between the two sides this past September in Paris the game ended in a 1-1 draw after Edinson Cavani has given the French side an early lead but Arsenal rallied to tie the game and share the points on the night. The only time the two clubs have played each other in European competition in North London was way back in the 1993/94 season when they faced off in the old Cup Winners Cup which has since been replaced by the Europa League. When Arsenal did play PSG back in the Cup Winners Cup semi-finals in the 1993/94 season the Londoners came out on top by a slim 1-0 margin so there is not much history to go on for this Wednesday’s clash.

Arsenal will be without Santi Cazorla who has been ruled out until Christmas with his achilles tendon problem and the Gunners will also be without another of their influential Spaniards as young right-back Hector Bellerin will also miss the game due to the injury he picked up in the recent North London Derby.

Arsenal will be able use Alexis Sanchez as he is seemingly fit again after his thight problem picked up on the international break but Arsene Wenger is having to defend his use of the striker after having him play the full 90 minutes against Manchester United this past weekend where Sanchez played with his thigh heavily strapped.
