Arsenal face a tough trip this weekend as they head to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United.
The Gunners come off the back of a 3-0 win on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup against Championship side Preston North End with goals from Gabriel Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri and Kai Havertz.
However, their league form has taken a hit recently with two winless games after a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth and a 2-2 draw to Liverpool last weekend which has put Mikel Arteta’s side five points off league leaders Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta will pleased however as there is good news regarding Arsenal’s injury concerns as Brazilian defender Gabriel is expected to be fit for the game. However, Ben White is a doubt and Martin Odegaard remains out. Click here to see our predicted XI for Arsenal as they make the trip to St James’ Park.
The Gunners face a Newcastle side who come off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend. However, they faced the Blues again in midweek in the Carabao Cup where they won 2-0 to progress to the quarter-finals.
Arsenal will hope to get back to winning ways and try to catch up to Manchester City who play against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Arsenal cautious favourites against the Magpies
Despite the Gunners’ fluctuating league form and the fact that they’ll play in a hostile St James’ Park atmosphere, Arsenal are backed by the bookmakers to come away with three points on Saturday.
According to Oddschecker, the Gunners are 21/20 favourites to win giving them a 49% chance of victory. Meanwhile, Newcastle are backed at 29/10 (25.6%) and a draw is backed at 11/4 (27%).
We predict a frustrating 1-1 draw for Arsenal as Newcastle will be riding a high as they come off the back of an impressive Carabao Cup performance.
