Arsenal vs Liverpool’s Christmas Eve Match: How Good Can It Be?

There’s a lot of flack running around the English Premier League. But nothing’s more hyped up than the recently reported matchup between two of the biggest teams in the league. News has it that Arsenal is going to battle it out against Liverpool this coming Christmas Eve. It’s even being referred to as the “Super Sunday” matchup due to the enormity of the game.

The “dream matchup” is currently scheduled to happen on Dec. 23, which is a Saturday. However, various news reports state the likelihood of the schedule being changed sometime next month. If it pushes through, then this will be the first time in the last 22 years that a high-calibre game like this will be scheduled for the Christmas Eve.

Though there is still no confirmation that the ideal schedule would push through, it’s still going to likely be the case. The amount of viewership ratings would surely skyrocket, bringing in enormous profits for the league and its cable providers.

It’s also reported that the game would start at exactly 4 PM. This schedule is an extraordinary never before has there been a 4 PM game in time for Christmas Eve. The last Dec. 24 game was held way back in 1995 between Leeds and Manchester United. It kicked off at noon.

The game would technically then be a Christmas Day matchup in some parts of Asia and Australia. It is expected that stadium tickets and TV ratings would skyrocket for this game, giving the Premier League and the whole world of football unparalleled popularity in mainstream media.

But as good as it sounds; it still isn’t exempted from the rule that – you can’t please everyone. Spirit of Shankly, a Liverpool support union, has publicly criticized the possibility. The group states that both clubs lack common sense because of the untimely matchup that’s going to take place on Christmas Eve.

The organization implies that Dec. 24 is a time for everyone (including the players and the team staffs) to relax and spend time with their families. Up until now, they’re still protesting the move, hoping that TV companies, the two clubs, and even the Premier League won’t allow such thing to happen. Aside from the commotion that took place, the possible schedule transfer is also likely to cause the change in the schedule of Liverpool’s Boxing Day game against Swansea to Dec. 27.

The Possible Winner

Liverpool is technically a better team than Arsenal when based on the Premier League’s current standings. The Reds are currently in the 5th spot while Arsenal is down to the 7th spot. This is primarily due to the Arsenal’s bad start of the season where they’ve had a series of heartbreaking loss and draw.

But when looking on how things went for the Gunners after that, it’s pretty clear that they’re improving at a pretty fast pace. Arsenal currently has betting odds of 40/1 which puts them at the 6th spot in the outright betting winner. They’re next to Liverpool’s 5th position holding 28/1 odds to win the league. With this, it’s safe to place your bet on Liverpool.

But if you want to bet on the Premier League and want to be really sure to win, then the best team for you to bet on is Man City. The City gets 19/20 odds to be hailed as the champion. Or you might also want to try your luck on Man United or Chelsea who has 11/4 odds and 5/1 odds respectively.

Getting back to the Christmas Eve matchup, it’s not right to just base your decision on the odds. You also need to check out the team’s performance, talent pool, and strategy. Arsenal won 4 out of its 5 last games with the other one ending in a 0-0 draw.

This shows that the Gunners have finally got their bearings right and are pursuing to make a run against Liverpool. And with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil as fiery as ever, who says they’re going to let the Reds beat their asses on Christmas Eve?

Needless to say, Liverpool is still worth of reckoning. Philippe Coutinho is done being sly in the field and is looking for some serious victory.

So where does this boil down to? We suggest trusting the Gunners this time around. Mark our word.
