Arsenal vs Doncaster Rovers: Match Preview and Predictions

Arsenal take on Doncaster Rovers in their first game of the League Cup. The League Cup has never been won by Arsene Wenger, but it is a domestic trophy that the Gunners will certainly want to bring home this season with pressure piling on Wenger and his side.

League One side Doncaster have had a poor start to their league campaign, winning only 1 game in 8. Arsenal will be expected to field a number of youthful stars, as well as some fringe players.


Jack Wilshere could be set to start alongside exciting youngster Reiss Nelson, who would be making his first start for the club’s first team. Goalkeeper David Ospina is more than likely to begin the game in goal, with forward Olivier Giroud set to replace Alexander Lacazette up front.

Arsenal have a tough fixture list in the pipeline and will be hoping for no hiccups against the League One side. The last time the two sides met back in 2005, the game went all the way to penalties – something Wenger will desperately hope to avoid.

Midfielder Mesut Ozil and forward Danny Welbeck will certainly miss the clash through injury, but with a number of talented youngsters within the Arsenal ranks it doesn’t seem as if the test ahead will be all too difficult.
