While many were not surprised that Kai Havertz was dropped, after a poor start to the season, the fact that Aaron Ramsdale was also benched did come as a shock for most fans.
There were murmurings during the international break that there could be a swap in keepers, and that led to us predicting Raya would start at Goodison Park. Even so, it was a big, big call.
Arteta is ruthless when he needs to be and it seems clear that Raya will be first choice going forward, which is slightly harsh on Ramsdale.
Raya got off to a good start against Everton, although it must be said that he wasn’t really tested due to how poor the Toffees were in attack.
