Arsenal Turned Down By Roma

Arsenal were apparently interested in signing Roma’s rising star, Alessandro Florenzi. The 23 year old who has been playing for the Italian side since 2010 grew a lot during last season, thus attracting Wenger’s attention. According to Metro, the Frenchman’s attempt to open talks for the young midfielder failed even before negotiations began. The Romans refused any contact with the North Londoners who saw in Florenzi a perfect replacement for Arteta who is expected to leave the Emirates.

Florenzi will not be leaving Roma anytime soon considering the fact that he is seen as the club’s biggest homegrown asset. The 23 year old who just missed out on the World Cup in Brazil will start training with his current club for which he has already made 74 appearances. Despite scoring just 9 times for Roma, he is still one of their most promising players who next to Strootman, Pjanic and Nainggolan will probably represent one of the strongest group of midfielders in the world.

Arsenal miss out on another one of their targets which is beginning to become a bit worrying. With just about 5 weeks until the beginning of the Premier League, Chelsea have transferred Fabregas and Diego Costa, Liverpool landed Lallana and Manchester United signed Shaw and Herrera. Wenger is once again trailing when it comes to transfers. The biggest problem is that the squad has become thinner than last year which means one or two transfers aren’t going to cut it.
