Arsenal Try To Head Off Inter As They Make Opening £10.5m Bid For Argentinian International

Arsenal have made a bid of €12m (£10.5m), including bonuses, for Gremio centre-back Walter Kannemann, according to reports in Italy.

Inter Milan and Sampdoria are also believed to be monitoring the 28-year-old but the Gunners are said to have made the first move to secure the defender’s signature.

Kannemann’s career has been pretty ordinary up until this point after playing for Atlas in Mexico before moving to Brazil to play for Gremio in 2016.

However, he has come to people’s attention following Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni’s decision to give him his first cap back in September.

Kannemann has made five appearances for his country so far, playing in friendlies in the lead up to the Copa America this summer.

The centre-half has a strong left-foot, and can also play at left-back. He would be well suited to playing in a back three; a formation that Arsenal manager Unai Emery has favoured this season.
