Arsenal Have ‘Added’ 2nd Brentford Player To Their List Of January Transfer Targets

Arsenal have “added” Brentford forward Yoane Wissa to their list of January transfer targets, according to reports.

The Telegraph claims that the Gunners are “admirers” of the 28-year-old, along with Nottingham Forest, who are targeting him as a potential replacement for Taiwo Awoniyi.

Wissa is the second Brentford player to be linked with a switch to the London Stadium in recent days.

Reports in the French media have suggested that Bryan Mbeumo is also on the London club’s radar, but the Cameroon international is attracting interest from the likes of North London rivals Tottenham and Manchester United as well.

What do fans need to know about Wissa?

The Republic of Congo international was born in France, having come through the academy at Chateauroux before joining Angers on a free transfer in 2016.

Wissa spent several spells out on loan ahead of his €2m switch to Lorient in January 2018. He scored 37 in 128 appearances for the French side prior to moving to Brentford in the summer of 2021.

He was recruited to be Ivan Toney’s understudy but, since the England international’s departure last summer, he has become a key player for the Bees, leading the line and scoring 12 times in 22 appearances this season.

His contract situation makes him an attractive target for Arsenal

Wissa has less than 18 months remaining on his current deal and, while Brentford are known for holding out for sizeable sums for their players, the Gunners do have good relations with the club, having agreed a deal for David Raya in the recent past.

The fact that Wissa can play right across the front three also means he can cover for both Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka. The pair are set for lengthy spells on the sidelines with ACL and hamstring injuries respectively.
