Arsenal Are Now ‘Interested’ In Signing Goalkeeper Who Didier Drogba Wants Chelsea To Buy

Arsenal are weighing up a move for Angers keeper Yahia Fofana, according to reports.

With Neto set to return to Bournemouth after his loan spell at the end of the season, the Gunners will again be seeking a new understudy for David Raya.

Up until recently, it was assumed that Mikel Arteta’s side would make another attempt to buy Joan Garcia from Espanyol.

However, TBRFootball report that the Spaniard now has offers to become first-choice at clubs in Italy, Germany and England, with Manchester United also among his suitors.

Garcia’s €25m (£21m) release clause makes him an attractive target but his reluctance to sit on the bench means Arsenal are likely to switch their attention to alternatives.

Fofana has impressed for Angers this season

The 24-year-old has garnered praise for his performances in Ligue One over the course of the last eight months so it isn’t a surprise that the Gunners are keeping an eye on him.

TBRFootball claim that they are “interested” in Fofana but they may encounter the same issue they are facing with Garcia in that he wants to be playing regularly.

Arsenal could face a challenge from a Premier League rival

Chelsea have been mentioned as a possible suitor over the past month or so. There are even suggestions that former player Didier Drogba has recommended Fofana to the Blues.

Enzo Maresca’s side have had their problems in goal, with neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen having looked convincing when given their chance this campaign.

For that reason, Fofana could potentially reject the Gunners’ advances in favour of a switch to Stamford Bridge. At the moment, though, there have been no reliable reports indicating that he is a genuine target for Arsenal’s rivals.

Nonetheless, the Ivorian international could be someone to keep an eye on in terms of a potential move over the coming weeks.
