Real Madrid have reportedly sent Arsenal a bid of £78m plus two young players for defender William Saliba, who they have previously been linked with.
Saliba’s current deal at Arsenal expires in 2027, and the Gunners are hopeful that they can agree a new contract for the 24-year-old to keep him at the club long-term.
Arsenal have added more depth behind Saliba this summer as they signed Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia, who will step in if the French centre-back suffers an injury.
However, Real Madrid have held a longstanding interest in Saliba, and Los Blancos are expected to step up their efforts to sign him, especially if Arsenal can’t agree a new deal for the French international.
Arsenal get mega offer from Real Madrid for Saliba
Amid the La Liga giants’ interest in Saliba, reports in Spain are suggesting that Arsenal received an offer from the Spanish club to sign the centre-back.
Spanish outlet Fichajes claim that Madrid have bid £78m, plus two players in order to try and sign Saliba. One of the players is 20-year-old attacking midfielder Arda Guler, who has struggled to get much game time at the Bernabeu.
The other player is star centre-back Raul Asencio, who would essentially replace Saliba at Arsenal if this deal was to happen. The 22-year-old made 57 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid last season, and is estimated to be worth around £35m.
In total, the deal for Saliba is estimated to be worth over £110m, which would be a world record for a defender. It was be a huge loss for Arsenal, however, they would be getting a lot back in return, which could tempt the higher-ups at the Emirates to consider negotiating a deal.
Saliba was vital to the Gunners’ defence last season, he made 51 appearances, scoring two goals. If Mikel Arteta‘s side are to win a Premier League title next year, he will either need to be in the team, or adequately replaced.
