Arsenal are closing in on the signature of Shamrock Rovers attacking midfielder Victor Ozhianvuna, according to reports.
The club’s manager, Stephen Bradley, has said that negotiations are quite far “down the line” with a foreign club.
While the name of the team was not confirmed by Bradley, the Irish Independent claim they believe the Gunners are the ones who are close to sealing Ozhianvuna’s services.
It is expected to be a national record fee, which will “shatter” the €1.9m that Tottenham paid for Mason Melia. However, he won’t join up with his new club straight away as he will stay in Ireland until he turns 18.
What do fans need to know about Ozhianvuna?
The 16-year-old was born in Ireland, but he does have Russian ancestry. He came through the ranks of Shamrock Rovers’ academy before making his senior debut against Usher Celtic in the Leinster Senior Cup back in January.
Ozhianvuna has subsequently gone on to make 14 appearances for the first team, including his first start against Wexford in the second round of the FAI Cup a couple of days ago.
He got his first goal of his senior career in that game, scoring the opener during a 4-0 win.
Arsenal are set to add another young player to their academy
While Ozhianvuna is expected to arrive at Hale End within the next couple of years, the Gunners are also hoping to bring in a talented striker from Salford City this summer.
It is believed that the North London club have beaten Liverpool in the race to sign Will Wright. The 17-year-old has already made his senior debut and he is set to cost £200,000 up front, plus add-ons.
