We Asked Arsenal Fans Which Striker The Club Should Sign And The Poll Results Are Surprising

Arsenal are believed to be keen on strengthening their options up front this summer.

Last season, Gabriel Jesus struggled with form and fitness, scoring just 4 times in the Premier League and, while Kai Havertz impressed when given opportunities to lead the line, he is by no means an out-and-out goalscorer.

We, therefore, asked GoonerNews readers for their opinion as to who the Gunners should buy as their new No.9. We did include Benjamin Sesko, as the poll was started prior to the news that the Slovenian was staying at RB Leipzig.

However, we also chose five other names, including Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Brentford’s Ivan Toney and (somewhat mischievously) Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski. As you can see (press “view results), there is a three-way split on who the club should target:

Will Arsenal make a move for Isak or Osimhen?

As mentioned, Sesko is no longer under consideration, but the two other favourites among fans are still on the market. Out of the pair, you would say that Osimhen is the most realistic target.

The Nigerian international does have a €130m (£109.7m) release clause in his contract but some reports have indicated that Napoli may reduce their asking price to just €100m (£84.4m)

Isak, meanwhile, is deemed unsellable by Newcastle, so you can’t see him leaving St James’ Park.

Toney has fallen out of favour

The Brentford striker was a frontrunner to join Arsenal back in January, but the fact that only 4.67% of supporters want him to move to the Emirates now is explained by one key factor.

Toney did not score in any of his last 12 league games for his club. If he had been on a hot streak in front of goal, there may have been more appetite to sign him. As of now, though, it appears the Gunners will pursue other options.
