Arsenal And Spurs Named Among 4 Clubs Who Could Battle It Out For Poacher Who Has Scored 18 Goals In 17 Games

Arsenal and Tottenham are both pursuing Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, according to L’Equipe.

The French publication report that the two North London rivals have joined the likes of Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the race to sign the Mexican international.

Gimenez has been a sensation since arriving from Cruz Azul in the summer of 2022. Last season, he scored 15 league goals to help Feyenoord win the Eredivisie title, as well as hitting the back of the net 13 times in other competitions.

This campaign, the 22-year-old has been even more prolific with 18 goals in his first 17 appearances. It is, therefore, not at all surprising that his performances are being watched by big clubs right across Europe.

Gimenez could be a cheaper alternative to Osimhen or Toney

It has been reported that Feyenoord could be prepared to sell Gimenez for around €40m (£35m), which is a great deal cheaper than Arsenal‘s other striker targets.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is being looked at as a serious option by the Gunners but it is likely that the Nigerian would cost as much as three times more than Gimenez.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney is also on the London club’s radar. Even though the England international would be a lot cheaper than Osimhen, his price tag would still be around £65m to £80m.

Arsenal would be taking a risk on signing the Mexican

One of the reasons that manager Mikel Arteta is believed to be so interested in recruiting another forward is that he needs someone who can guarantee 20+ goals a season.

While Gimenez has proven he can do that in the Netherlands, there is no certainty he could replicate that form in English football. If they are going to splash out on a new No.9, they need to ensure that they are actually getting an upgrade on what they have already got.
