Arsenal Transfer News Roundup

The winter transfer window is coming to an end and Arsenal are still looking for some major transfers. Rumors of a last minute loan appeared today and Yoann Gourcuff seems to be the target. The French 26 year old midfielder is on the move after a really unproductive season with Lyon. This move is not a done deal but it is likely to take place considering the alternatives come from Russia. Arsenal is a better fit for the Frenchmen and his qualities. The only problem that can interfere between the gunners and Gourcuff is the €100,000 weekly salary he is currently receiving from Lyon.

Although signing Gourcuff could have some impact with Arsenal’s fans that are critiquing the club’s transfer policy, rumors have it that the gunners are staying true to Wenger’s vision when it comes to transfers. They are currently targeting AZ Alkmar`s 19 year old rising star Adam Maher which has already made a name for himself by being the youngest scorer in Europa League. Sources say that the Moroccan midfielder has already received his manager’s blessing and he is ready to sit down with the people from London.

One of the most important pieces of news that has been circulating all over the internet and that has all major sports publications buzzing is that David Villa is going to end up scoring for Arsenal. With Marouane Chamakh’s loan to West Ham and the extra money that resulted from lending Djourou and Frimpong to Hannover and Fulham, Wenger has paved the way for Barcelona’s striker who is keen on leaving Primera Division. The only problem with signing the 31 year old striker is that Man. City and Chelsea are prepared to overbid. Although Arsenal is one of the most stable Clubs in England as far as finances go, both the Citizens and The Blues work with almost limitless budgets.

With that said Arsenal are set to make a final offer to the Spanish club. With less than 48 hours until the transfer window closes Villa looks keen on heading towards Emirates Stadium but the deal in not yet closed. Wenger started the transfer window with three targets in mind that included a new goalkeeper, a defensive midfielder and a striker. Up until now Villa is the most likely to be checked off the French coach’s list. Signing a big name like David Villa could solve some of the problems the club has had with the fans that are unsatisfied with Wenger’s low-spending mentality but the question that emerges is if the Spaniard is truly a necessity. Giroud is in one of his best career seasons so far, Walcott is scoring in almost every game and Podolski is amongst the top assist providers in the league.

As far as goalkeepers go, the gunners looked into Pepe Reina who is willing to leave Liverpool. The problem is that he is not likely to choose a premier league team after his 8 year history with the Anfield team. Wenger has also presented interest in Michel Vorm, Simon Mignolet and QPR’s Julio Cesar. The last alternative is definitely possible considering the fact that QPR are struggling to pay the Brazilian’s salary.

Last but not least David Beckham is still training with the gunners and may join them after the transfer window closes. Wenger said that having such an experienced player among young talented footballers such as Wilshire, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Ramsey would be an asset to the team but that the former English captain is not one of his priorities.

News sources also indicate that young Carl Jenkinson is headed towards Stoke or West Ham. The 20 year old right-backer hasn’t played since December and had a hard time competing with Bacary Sagna who still has 18 months left on his contract.

January is close to an end and fans are not satisfied with the outcome. Arsenal has failed to sign any players and most say Wenger is to blame. Hopefully the next 48 hours will solve some of the gunner’s problems that are mostly caused by the midfielder’s inefficacy and by Szczesny’s lack of consistency.
