Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly enquired about signing Real Madrid star Rodrygo on a loan deal this summer.
The Gunners have strengthened heavily in attack so far this summer, adding Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP and Noni Madueke from Chelsea. They also want to bring in a left-winger, who can challenge Gabriel Martinelli for the starting spot.
Eberechi Eze has been linked with this role in recent weeks, as the Gunners are understood to be lining up a bid for the England international. However, they are also keen on Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who has also been linked with Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.
Arsenal want Rodrygo on loan
Real Madrid have set a £78m asking price for the Brazilian star, which could be tough for Arsenal to match unless they make player sales. However, according to international sports publisher Tribuna.com, Arsenal and Liverpool have both enquired about the possibility of signing Rodrygo on a loan deal, with or without an option to buy.
However, the report does include that Madrid are very much against a loan move for the Brazilian, as it wouldn’t benefit them in any way, unless there was an obligation to buy next summer. The winger made 54 appearances for Madrid last year, scoring 14 goals, and providing 11 assists.
What have Real Madrid said about Rodrygo leaving?
Despite there being no doubt over just how good a player Rodrygo can be on his day, it is understood that Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso are very much open to letting him leave this summer, amid a fractious relationship with the player at the moment.
The Athletic claims that “both the club and Alonso are open to Rodrygo leaving”, as the Real Madrid boss and higher-ups aren’t happy with the 24-year-old. Furthermore, with the potential increased role of young Brazilian Endrick this season, Rodrygo’s role at Real could reduce.
That potentially clears the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool to go after the winger. However, a loan move looks unlikely unless the Gunners can provide guarantees of a purchase of the 24-year-old at the end of the year.
