Arsenal Monitoring 111-Goal Former Liverpool Star In Free Agent Deal

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, who could become a free agent in the coming weeks.

The Gunners are looking to sign a striker before the end of the season after Kai Havertz was ruled out until next year due to a hamstring injury that he suffered on a warm-weather camp in Dubai.

In their last match, Arsenal decided to play Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino in the striker positions, with the latter netting twice to give them a 2-0 win against Leicester.

The Gunners now sit second in the league, eight points off Liverpool, who dropped points against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Mikel Arteta may have found the solution to his striker woes however, as former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino reportedly wants to terminate his contract at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

According to Brazilian Journalist Wilson Pimentel, Firmino has asked to leave Al-Ahli to become a free agent, and Arsenal, alongside Brazilian side Flamengo are reportedly monitoring his situation.

Should the Saudi club be prepared to terminate his contract, the 33-year-old would instantly become a free agent, allowing Arsenal to sign him immediately.

Firmino has scored 10 goals in 26 games for Al-Ahli, and has a proven Premier League scoring record, netting 111 goals in 362 games with Liverpool over a spell of eight years.

Arsenal could choose former Chelsea free agent instead of Firmino

The Gunners have also been linked to signing former Chelsea striker Diego Costa on a short-term deal as he is also a free agent, most recently playing at Brazilian side Gremio.

Costa, 36, scored 59 goals in 120 games during his time with Chelsea, and could be signed immediately to give Arsenal some more depth up front.

However, considering that Merino netted twice in their last game, signing one of Costa or Firmino may not be necessary if he continues to score.
