Arsenal have announced the signing of MK Dons goalkeeper Remi Lupinski on a two-year scholarship deal.
The move is still subject to the FA’s regulatory process, but after signing on the dotted line, the 16-year-old expressed his delight at making the switch to the Emirates when speaking to the club’s website:
“I’m lost for words, it’s amazing to sign for Arsenal. It’s going to be unbelievable, and I’m looking forward to playing for this great club, and I just can’t wait to get started.”
Lupinski is described as a “brave, proactive” keeper who is good with the ball at his feet, so he should fit in perfectly at the Hale End training centre.
We may see Lupinski feature in the FA Youth Cup
Due to his age, it is likely that the shot-stopper will be selected for the Gunners’ Under 18s, although he will have stiff competition from the likes of Jack Porter, Jack Talbot and Khari Ranson.
Lupinski will be hoping to see some action in the FA Youth Cup next season, but he will definitely have to earn his place in Adam Birchall’s starting lineup.
Arsenal’s academy is continuing to produce gems
In addition to Max Dowman, senior manager Mikel Arteta has also selected the likes of Tommy Setford, Alexei Rojas-Fedorushchenko (both keepers), Josh Nichols, Marli Salmon, Louis Copley, Ismeal Kabia and Andre Harriman-Annous in his pre-season squad for the tour of Asia.
Including first team players, 12 of the 30 who have travelled out to the Far East started out life in the club’s academy, which is a very impressive figure.
Lupinski, therefore, knows that there is a pathway to senior football if he can prove himself with his performances during his time in North London over the next two seasons.
