Berta Wants Arsenal To Target Nico Williams Alternative Who Has Been Tipped For “Great Things” By Ronaldinho

AC Milan winger Rafael Leao is held in “high regard” by Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta, according to journalist Gianluigi Longari.

Writing for SportItalia, the reporter offered some insights into Berta’s summer transfer plans for the Gunners.

It is believed that Leao is under serious consideration with the Portuguese international’s near €100m (£85m) price tag having not put them off.

Longari claims that no “in-depth” discussions have taken place over a potential move yet but it is a situation to keep an eye on.

Leao is expected to have other suitors. Teams in Saudi Arabia are said to be weighing up an approach for him. Chelsea have also been linked with the player in previous transfer windows.

The Arsenal target has received praise from a Brazilian legend

Speaking about Milan last month, World Cup winner and ex-Rossoneri player Ronaldinho namechecked Leao when asked about his former team:

“There are great players at Milan and it is a good team, so I think they can do great things next season. Leao does not need my advice, he is a great player. He is one of the players I most enjoy watching.”

Leao is not the only winger on the club’s shortlist

Berta is believed to have held talks with the agent of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams in recent weeks. However, there are concerns that the Spanish international is demanding too high a salary.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens has also been mentioned as a potential option, but he does lack experience. At 25 years of age, Leao is about to hit the prime of his career and he would provide Gabriel Martinelli with stiff competition for his place on the left flank. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will firm up their interest ahead of the summer.
