Arsenal Joined By Premier League Title Rivals In Race For £43M-Rated Striker

Arsenal have been joined by Liverpool in the race for Lille FC striker Jonathan David according to reports.

The Gunners are keen on the 24-year-old alongside Liverpool according to CaughtOffside, who also reports that Aston Villa, Napoli and Chelsea also want the striker.

Liverpool are looking to make an offer for the Canadian international this week with only five days left in the transfer window.

The report suggests that Napoli have agreed personal terms with the striker but the club are yet to agree on a transfer fee for him.

David is in demand as he has had four years at Lille scoring 87 goals in 188 games, an impressive record in the French Ligue 1. He plays as a central striker often in a partnership, however at Arsenal he would likely be up top by himself.

How much will Jonathan David cost?

Lille are demanding a transfer fee in the region of over £38m with an expected salary for David of £2.5m over five years.

Due to the heavy demand, Lille may decide to drive up his asking price to ensure they make a healthy profit on the £22.9m transfer fee that they paid from KAA Gent in 2020.

As transfer deadline day closes in, Lille may decide to cash in on the Canadian or could consider a future where the striker stays at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium.

Arsenal still searching for a striker

The Gunners have been keen to add a striker throughout the summer but are yet to sign someone for the position. Mikel Arteta has been linked to David among others.

Victor Osimhen is linked with a move to the Emirates but they have rivals in Chelsea and PSG to land the Nigerian international.

The Gunners have also been linked with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, but he has a hefty release clause of £86m which could put Arsenal off the Swedish international.
