Alan Smith Suggests Arsenal Sign ‘Cream Of The Crop’ Attacker Amid Interest From Rivals

Ex-Arsenal and England striker Alan Smith suggests that his former club should make a move for Wolves and Portugal forward Pedro Neto this summer.

Mikel Arteta is looking to improve his attacking options this summer with Arsenal looking for depth in a number of positions further up the pitch. The Gunners’ boss has resorted to playing certain names out of position in order to make up for the lack of options in the squad.

Speaking to Prime Casino, Smith said that Arteta should make a move for Wolves attacker Pedro Neto who has also received interest from both Manchester City and Newcastle United.

He said: “Arsenal will want variation in the squad. If you buy somebody that looks to get up against the centre halves and make runs in behind, whilst also having the physical attributes required for the Premier League, then I think that would really add something to the group. The club are shopping for the cream of the crop in terms of ability because this Arsenal squad is full of class players.

“Pedro Neto is a great talent. If Neto could enjoy a season free of injury, what an addition to the squad he could be. He has tremendous pace and he’ll look a better player in the Arsenal side than he does in the Wolves side.”

Pedro Neto has been linked with Premier League rivals

Mikel Arteta has reportedly shown interest in Neto, but he is not the only manager that is eyeing up the Portuguese international. Both Manchester City and Newcastle United hold interest in the attacker according to GiveMeSport, meaning that the Gunners would need to offer a competitive fee if they were to land Neto.

Wolves are looking for a £60 million fee for the 24 year-old but with multiple Premier League clubs poised to make a move for him, the Midlands-based club could drive his price skyward and provoke somewhat of a bidding war between title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.

Arsenal also looking at striker options

It is likely that Arsenal would also pursue an out-and-out striker this summer which could tempt them away from the versatile Neto. But there is no reason why Arteta wouldn’t want to bring in multiple options at the top end of the pitch.
