Arsenal and AC Milan are both interested in signing Athletic Bilbao attacking midfielder Oihan Sancet, according to Fichajes.net.
The Spanish rumour mongers claim that the two clubs are “on the prowl” for the 23-year-old, who was given his first two caps by his country last month.
Sancet scored on his debut after coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Scotland, before making his second appearance in a 1-0 victory over Norway a few days later.
For Bilbao, the midfielder has been a key figure in the La Liga side’s strong start to the season, with his team currently sitting in fifth place.
Sancet has racked up 3 goals and provided 2 assists in 12 games so far. He has built on his performances from last campaign when he scored 10 times in the league.
Where would he fit in Arsenal’s team?
Sancet can play as no.10 or slightly deeper, which suggests that he could be perfect for the ‘advanced 8’ role in Mikel Arteta’s system.
The Gunners have struggled to find a suitable replacement for Granit Xhaka, who left to join Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the last season.
Kai Havertz was brought in from Chelsea for £65m, but the German international has scored just 1 penalty in 19 matches. Fabio Vieira has also struggled for consistency, while there ongoing questions about the future of Emile Smith Rowe.
How much would Sancet cost?
The midfielder signed a staggering 9-year contract back in April but every La Liga player does have a release clause, which could help Arsenal secure his signature either in January or at the end of the season.
Reports suggest that Sancet’s buyout fee could be between €45m (£39m) and €50m (£44m) which would make him an attainable target.
