Arsenal Want To Rival Chelsea In Race For £51m-Rated Winger Alternative To Nico Williams

Arsenal reportedly want to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens as an alternative to Nico Williams.

The Gunners have been linked to signing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who has a £48m release clause. They are expected to move for him in the summer, but the Spanish international is reportedly demanding a hefty wage of over £400,000 per week.

Arsenal could instead opt to pursue a different target, with reports this week suggesting that they could go after Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, who has also emerged as a target for Chelsea.

According to TBR, Arsenal want to sign the English winger, who is reportedly open to joining either London club. Initially, the German club were hoping to get around £85m for him, but seeing as they are unlikely to finish in a Champions League spot, they will need to sell more players this summer and so reportedly are now asking for just £51m.

Gittens has been a key player for Dortmund this season, making 45 appearances this season in all competitions. He’s scored 12 goals and provided five assists, something that has attracted the attention of Chelsea in recent weeks.

Nico Williams sends Arsenal a hint about a summer move

Ahead of Athletic Bilbao’s Europa League semi-final against Manchester United on Thursday, Williams was asked about his future, but said that he is very happy where he is in Bilbao.

He told the media: “The dream is to lift the champion’s trophy at San Mames. I have the opportunity to make history at this club. The dream never ends. I’m 100 per cent focused on tomorrow, on reaching the final and winning it.

“I don’t want to look any further. I’m super happy here and feel well. I’ve always wanted to feel important here. This is a 10/10 season for me.”

Bilbao want Williams to sign a new long-term contract at the club, but Arsenal will be hoping that the Spaniard decides to come to the Emirates instead.
