Arsenal are keeping close tabs on Eintracht Frankfurt fullback Nathaniel Brown, according to reports in the German media.
Tabloid Bild claim that the 22-year-old is “attracting interest” from the likes of the Gunners, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Brown was given his first senior cap for Germany last week, coming on for the final 10 minutes of the 4-0 win over Luxembourg.
At club level, the defender has also had a very impressive 15 months. Last season, he scored 3 goals and provided 7 assists in 33 appearances for Frankfurt. This campaign, he has managed to find the back of the net once and contribute 2 more assists.
Frankfurt won’t let Brown leave without a fight
Bild report that the left-back’s club have slapped a €60m (£52m) price tag on him. They have garnered a reputation for getting high transfer fees for their players in recent years.
Liverpool paid £69m for Hugo Ekitike last summer, and Frankfurt also raised €90m from the sale of Randal Kolo Muani to Paris Saint-Germain a couple of years before.
Brown’s age and budding reputation as a senior international mean that the Bundesliga side won’t let him leave on the cheap either in January or at the end of the season.
Do Arsenal need another left-back?
Considering the Gunners have plenty of depth on the left-hand side of defence, it would be a surprise if they are seriously contemplating a move for Brown.
Along with Riccardo Calafiori, who has started the campaign as first choice, manager Mikel Arteta can also call upon the services of Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Neither defender is exactly old, either. Calafiori is 23 years of age, while Lewis-Skelly only turned 19 last month. Brown’s services are, therefore, not really required, unless one of these two players leaves the Emirates in the near future.
