Arsenal Join Liverpool And 2 Other Clubs In Pursuing Algerian ‘Phenomenon’ Who Has Scored 17 Times This Season

Arsenal are one of 4 clubs keeping tabs on Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura, according to La Gazette du Fennec.

The Algerian news outlet describes the forward as a “phenomenon” after scoring 17 goals in all competitions so far this season.

It is believed that the Gunners, Liverpool, AC Milan and Marseille are watching Amoura closely following his excellent performances.

The 23-year-old has only been at Union Saint-Gilloise since the summer, having signed from Swiss side Lugano for €4m.

Amoura will be playing for Algeria at the African Cup of Nations

Undoubtedly, scouts will be keeping a watchful eye on Amoura when he plays for his country over the next month at AFCON.

Algeria take on Angola in their first group game on January 15th before subsequent fixtures against Burkina Faso and Mauritania.

Amoura has started two of the last four internationals so there is a decent chance that he will feature regularly in the tournament.

He won’t be a January target for Arsenal

As he has already played for two clubs this campaign, FIFA rules mean Amoura would be ineligible to play for another team before the summer.

Therefore, the Gunners will not make a bid for the forward this month but it could be a transfer that Mikel Arteta’s side revisit at the end of the season.

In terms of who Arsenal will go after in January, it’s difficult to know. The main issue that the club is facing is how to overcome Financial Fair Play restrictions. Without selling players first, they would not be able to sign the likes of Brentford’s Ivan Toney or Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

One solution could be to recruit a striker on loan, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer, but they would need to find a team who would be willing to sanction such a deal.
